2. This website

The website uses no cookies, no analytics, tracking or advertising services and loads no fonts, scripts or images from third-party servers. There is no customer account and there are no forms.

Server logs: When you open the page, the hosting provider's web server stores technically necessary access data (IP address, date and time, page requested, amount of data transferred, browser and operating system). This serves secure and stable operation (legal basis: legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is stored by the hosting provider according to its own policies and is not merged with other data. The hosting provider is easyname GmbH (Vienna, Austria).

Contact by email: If you write to us, we process your details (email address, message) to handle your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). We delete them once the enquiry is settled, at the latest after 12 months, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

Links to stores: The page links to Google Play, the Apple App Store and the Microsoft Store. When you click, you leave our site; the privacy terms of the respective provider apply there.

3. The Rotovo app

In short

Rotovo works without an account, without a cloud, without ads and without an internet connection. All data stays on your device and is neither backed up nor transmitted: the app does not connect to the internet on its own and sends no data to us or to third parties (Android: cloud backup and transfer to another device are switched off; Windows: network connections are blocked inside the app). Only exception: the licence check of the Windows sales version, see “Purchase and licence check”. There are no analytics or tracking tools.

What data the app stores on your device

Data Purpose Where
Profile: name (freely chosen), optionally weight, FTP, maximum heart rate Showing power zones and W/kg locally on the device
Saved rides: duration, distance, power, cadence, speed, heart rate Statistics and history locally on the device
Settings: layout, units, button assignment, paired devices Operation locally on the device
Diagnostic log (technical messages, Bluetooth events) Troubleshooting local, cleared at every start

On Windows the data is in the folder %APPDATA%\Rotovo, on Android in the app's private storage.

Heart rate is health data. It is only displayed and stored locally if you connect a heart-rate sensor. We do not receive this data.

Security of the stored data. On Windows, settings and rides are stored encrypted (Windows data protection, bound to your Windows user account); on Android they are in the app's protected storage, without cloud backup and without transfer to other devices. The Windows encryption does not protect against programs running under your user account.

Your own routes. Imported GPX, KML or TCX files are stored on the device together with their course; they can reveal your home or usual destinations. They never leave the device.

Since this data does not leave your device, we as the provider do not process it. You have full control: delete single rides and routes in the app; when deleting a profile you can delete its rides as well; under “Profiles” → “Delete all my data” you remove everything at once (licence and your acceptance of the licence agreement remain). Alternatively remove all data by uninstalling the app or deleting the folder mentioned.

Bluetooth and permissions

The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy to look for smart trainers, heart-rate sensors and handlebar controllers nearby and connects only to the device you select.

On Android the app asks for the following permissions:

Route map and photos. The route map is drawn from the route data in the app (course, elevation profile, places); no map images are loaded from the internet. The photos along the routes are included in the app. Links such as “Create your own route” (brouter.de) open the browser only when you tap them; from then on that site’s privacy policy applies, and Rotovo transmits nothing.

Good to know nearby. The short texts about towns, landscape, food and drink etc. are stored in the app; your position on the route is only compared with this list locally on your device. No photos, articles or search results are loaded from the internet and no positions are sent. The short texts come from the German-language Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0, shortened; link, authors and licence are shown with every entry).

If you send us something

If you contact us via “Send log” or by email, we receive the data you deliberately send (e.g. email address, message, diagnostic log). Sending runs through the app you choose (e.g. your email program).

We use this data only to answer your enquiry or fix the error (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for support requests relating to the contract, otherwise (f), legitimate interest in fixing errors). We delete it once the enquiry is settled, at the latest after 12 months, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

Purchase and licence check

If you buy Rotovo via Google Play or the Microsoft Store, these companies process your purchase and payment data under their own responsibility. Their privacy terms apply. From the stores we only receive aggregated sales reports and, where applicable, crash reports that allow no conclusions about your training data.

Purchase via rotovo-app.com / rotovo.at and licence check (Windows): Lemon Squeezy. Purchases through our website are handled by our payment service provider Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record: Lemon Squeezy is your contract partner for payment, invoice, VAT, refunds and the renewal of the subscription and processes your purchase and payment data under its own responsibility (its privacy policy applies). From Lemon Squeezy we receive the details needed to perform the contract (name, email address, country, order and licence data) and process them to deliver the licence key, for support and because of statutory retention duties (Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR). Only the Windows sales version checks its licence online: on activation, and afterwards at intervals of several days, it sends your licence key and your computer’s name to api.lemonsqueezy.com (your IP address is transmitted for technical reasons) to check that the key is valid and not used on more devices than permitted. No training, health or location data is transmitted. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR. Processing in third countries (e.g. USA) is possible. Via “About Rotovo & licence” you can release the licence on a device; without internet the app keeps running for up to 21 days. The Android version and all test versions send nothing. If you buy through Google Play, Google handles payment and subscription under its own responsibility.

4. Your rights

You can also complain to the supervisory authority: Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde), Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, www.dsb.gv.at.

5. Changes

If the app or the website change in such a way that more or different data is processed (e.g. synchronisation with Strava or an online shop), we will adjust this policy beforehand.
